"A death certificate?  Does this mean that babies were...alive?  Abortion could not be murder if, indeed, all that was aborted was a mass of tissue," (p. 87).  When she learned how abortions are performed, she decided to resign, but reconsidered since she was the only "no" vote.  Dr. La Verne remained on the board to be a "thorn in their sides."

She continued to study and research, and in her doctoral studies which examined school-based clinics (sbcs), she learned that poor, black women were the target of population control.  To ensure that they are reaching the youth, sbcs are in middle and high schools.  Comprehensive sex education, which encourages sexual activity, is taught by "health educators" who are "invited" into the health classroom.  If a girl becomes pregnant, the school-based nurse has federal authority to remove her from school and transport her to a Planned Parenthood clinic or hospital for an abortion without parental notification or consent.  The child is returned to the school before the end of the day, and when she goes home, her parents have no idea that major surgery has occurred.

For churches, crisis pregnancy centers, schools and other pro-life organizations, Dr. Tolbert shares her personal experience along with her research in her talk, "Planned Parenthood is NOT Your Friend."

Abstinence, Adoption, No Abortion

The www.toomanyaborted.com billboard campaigns inform the African American community about abortion’s devastating impact. The most recent CDC Abortion Surveillance Report (November 2009) reveals that, nationally, African-Americans have abortions at 3x the rate of white women and 2x the rate of all other races combined.  African-American are abortion's primary victims. We must reverse this trend!

The Word of our Testimony

A teen mom shares her story of overcoming abuse to raise her child and complete school.
"Sharing my life story and experience is one of my greatest joys," says Dr. Tolbert.  "If I am able to help parents realize the power they have, then I've equipped them to set safe boundaries for themselves and those whom God has given them to raise."

Parents need encouragement!  Providing parenting classes where there's honest sharing and compassionate advice helps parents...parent!  What better ministry is there?  Stronger families build healthy churches, safe communities, productive cities, and powerful nations.

Martin (right), who is a nationally-known pastor from Possum Trot, Texas.  Following the example of he and his wife, Bishop Martin's church family adopted over 70 hard-to-place children.

Odette, an entrepreneur, and Dr. Tolbert are partners in ministry dedicated to educating churches about adoption and foster care. Their goal? To help every child find a permanent family!

During "Open Your Heart Sunday," an adoption event held at Crenshaw Christian Center in Los Angeles where Pastor Frederick Price is pastor, Dr. Tolbert received a commendation from the Department of Children and Family Services signed by Mark Ridley-Thomas, Supervisor, Second District.  This award acknowledges the 30 years that Dr. Tolbert has advocated for adoption by encouraging congregations to establish adoption ministries mentorship programs, and foster programs.  An additional assist to families she believes is forming interest groups where adoptive parents and/or foster care parents meet regularly to discuss their issues and share their victories. With this support, more families would become foster and adoptive parents.

A new venture is being launched that will enable churches to connect with youth who are in the system, especially teens who are considered "harder to adopt."  For more information, contact Dr. Tolbert by emailing drtolbert@teachinglikejesus.org.
